On 10 July, Global Energy Independence Day promotes awareness of alternative energy sources. As well as learning about renewable forms of energy, like solar, wind, and geothermal, the day offers opportunities to explore these sources. Interestingly this day also coincides with the birth anniversary of Serbian American inventor Nikola Tesla.
People commonly use oil, coal, and gas as sources of energy. Fossil fuels are these types of energy. Fossil fuels are associated with many concerns. The first is that they will eventually run out. Air and water pollution, land degradation, and global warming are also concerns associated with fossil fuels. In order to solve these problems, scientists are exploring renewable energy sources. Solar energy, wind energy, hydroelectricity, nuclear energy, and geothermal energy are examples of these types of energy.
Global Energy Independence Day: History
As early as 2006, Michael D. Antonovich proclaimed July 10th as ‘Global Energy Independence Day’ to recognize the importance of energy independence.
He was a member of the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors at that time. Renewable energy is the best way to achieve an energy independent world.
This day also coincides with the birth anniversary of Serbian American inventor Nikola Tesla, who was born in Croatia on 10th July 1856. Tesla’s inventions in the area of electric power led to the discovery of various forms of energy.

Global Energy Independence Day: Significance
From electricity to oil and gas to coal, energy has become an integral part of our lives. Our increased consumption demands are depleting most of the non-renewable energy sources we use today very quickly.

Approximately 9.5 billion people are expected to live in the world by 2050, according to UN projections. Increasing population and environmental concerns strain energy resources already under strain. As technology becomes more and more dependent on the world, the demand for energy is also increasing.
Solar, wind, hydro, and biogas are all renewable sources of energy, so it is crucial to shift towards them. As a result, renewable energy is the best way to achieve an energy-independent world so that even our future generations won’t have to worry about energy shortages and demands.
