Education Minister Shri Dharmendra Pradhan to Strengthen Ties with Singapore and Australia
Union Minister for Education, Shri Dharmendra Pradhan, will embark on a significant visit to Singapore and Australia from 20th to 26th October 2024. His visit aims to enhance collaboration and cooperation in the education sector between India and these countries. The trip will focus on critical areas of mutual interest in education, fostering partnerships, and sharing best practices.
Visit to Singapore: Fostering Global Partnerships
During his two-day visit to Singapore on 20th and 21st October 2024, Shri Pradhan will engage with the Indian diaspora. On 20th October, he will address the Indian community, strengthening connections and discussing Indiaโs global education aspirations.
On 21st October, Shri Pradhan will meet key Singaporean leaders, including Prime Minister H.E. Lawrence Wong, Deputy Prime Minister H.E. Gan Kim Yong, Education Minister H.E. Chan Chun Sing, and Foreign Minister H.E. Vivian Balakrishnan. These discussions will aim to boost cooperation in areas like education and research.
He will also visit the National University of Singapore, ranked No. 1 in Asia, and discuss education collaboration. In addition, Shri Pradhan will visit a local secondary school to explore the possibility of syllabus integration with a special focus on artificial intelligence (AI). He will meet academicians and alumni of IITs and IIMs to discuss India-Singapore education ecosystems.
Australia Visit: Exploring Educational Innovations
From 23rd to 26th October 2024, Shri Pradhan will visit Australia, beginning with Melbourne. On 23rd October, he will meet Hon. Jason Clare MP, the Australian Minister for Education. Shri Pradhan will also deliver the Plenary Address at the Australian International Education Conference, focusing on education advancements and cooperation.
During his Melbourne visit, he will tour the South Melbourne Primary School, which is known for its integrated learning approaches. The visit highlights how modern education practices can enhance student learning outcomes.
Shri Pradhan will also visit RMIT University, known for its Discovery to Device initiative. This center specializes in MedTech prototyping and manufacturing and is a leading model for collaboration between academia and industry. The Minister will discuss how similar partnerships can foster innovation in medical technology in India.
Later in Melbourne, Shri Pradhan will meet Hon. Jacinta Allan MP, Premier of Victoria, and visit Monash University to observe their Innovation Lab and Centre for Nano-Fabrication. He will also interact with Indian-origin senior academics to explore research opportunities.
Sydney: Promoting Early Childhood and Higher Education
On 24th October, Shri Pradhan will visit Auburn Long Day Child Care Centre in Sydney to explore opportunities in early childhood education workforce development. He will meet representatives of the Innovative Research Universities (IRU) and attend the 2nd Australia India Education and Skills Council, focusing on bilateral education initiatives.
On 25th October, he will visit Granville South Creative and Performing Arts High School. Shri Pradhan will also tour the Macquarie Park Innovation District (MPID), which houses over 180 multinational companies. This visit aims to explore how research can be applied in telecommunications, digital industries, and medical technology for economic benefit.
In the evening, Shri Pradhan will interact with Indian research students hosted by the Group of Eight, Australiaโs top research-intensive universities. These discussions will focus on strengthening India-Australia research ties.
UNSW and UTS Visits: Energy and Sports Research
Shri Pradhan will visit the UNSW Energy Institute and the Trailblazer for Recycling and Clean Energy (TraCE) at Tyree Energy Technologies Building, Kensington. Here, he will witness how research at UNSW is making a real-world impact in areas like clean energy and recycling. This visit will showcase how practical applications of research can lead to commercial success.
He will also visit UTS Moore Park Sports and Exercise Precinct to explore cooperation in sports education and research. This state-of-the-art facility offers a unique blend of teaching, research, and sporting activities and can provide a model for similar initiatives in India.
