The provisional direct tax collection digits up to 10th August 2023 continues to experience steady growth. Collection of direct taxes up to 10th August 2023 shows gross collections are at Rs. 6.53 lakh crore which is 15.73% higher. compared to the gross receipts of the corresponding period of the previous year. The collection of direct taxes, net of refunds, is Rs. 5.84 lakhs crore which is 17.33% higher than the net receipts for the corresponding period last year. This collection represents 32.03% of total direct tax budget estimates for FY 2023-24.
Refunds equal to Rs. 0.69 lakh crore were issued during 1st April 2023 to 10th August 2023, equal to 3.73% higher than the refunds granted during the same period of the previous year.
