Commerce & Industry Minister Takes Swachhata Pledge
On 17th September 2024, Union Minister of Commerce & Industry, Shri Piyush Goyal, along with Union Minister of State Shri Jitin Prasad and Commerce Secretary Shri Sunil Barthwal, took part in the Swachhata Pledge. The pledge was part of their commitment to the Swachhata Hi Seva campaign, focusing on the themes of “Swabhav Swachhata” (natural cleanliness) and “Sanskaar Swachhata” (clean habits).
The ministers and senior officials pledged to work toward a litter-free India and encouraged people across the country to actively participate in the campaign. By taking the pledge, they showed their support for keeping the environment clean and fostering good hygiene habits in the community.
Swachhata Samvad and Cleanliness Quiz
To further promote cleanliness awareness, the Department of Commerce hosted a Swachhata Samvad (cleanliness dialogue) on 18th September 2024. This session included educational videos and discussions on the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan (Clean India Mission). Participants learned about the importance of maintaining clean surroundings and how to contribute to the campaign.
Additionally, on 20th September 2024, a Swachhata Quiz was organized to raise awareness about cleanliness and hygiene. The quiz encouraged officials to spread the message of clean habits in their workplaces and communities.
‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ Initiative: Tree Planting for a Greener India
As part of the Swachhata Hi Seva 2024 campaign, the Department of Commerce participated in the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ initiative on 25th September 2024. Commerce Secretary, Shri Sunil Barthwal, along with other officers, planted trees at Vanijya Bhawan, New Delhi.
This tree-planting event was designed to honor the environment and promote the importance of sustainability. By planting trees, the Department of Commerce is helping to create a greener and healthier India, contributing to environmental protection and the global fight against climate change.
‘Swachhata Shramdaan’ and Clean-Up Drives
On 28th September 2024, the Department of Commerce organized a ‘Swachhata Shramdaan’ (voluntary labor for cleanliness) at RK Puram, where officers and officials gathered to clean their surroundings. Several affiliated organizations, including the Rubber Board, Spices Board, Tobacco Board, and Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), also joined the Swachhata Hi Seva 2024 campaign. These organizations held a variety of activities such as:

- Health camps for farm workers to promote good hygiene practices.
- Cleanliness Target Unit (CTU) initiatives, focusing on keeping workspaces clean.
