Computerization and Wide Area Network Connectivity under eCourt project

OV Digital Desk

The Wide Area Network (WAN) project under the eCourts project is aimed at connecting all the district and subordinate court complexes, scattered across the country using various technologies such as OFC, RF, VSAT. Until March 2023, We commissioned 2976 sites out of 2992 sites with bandwidth speeds between 10Mbps and 100Mbps (filling out 99.5% of sites). This forms the backbone of the eCourts project which ensures data connectivity in courts across the length and breadth of the country.

Many courts in the eCourts project are located in remote areas, referred to as technically non-feasible (TNF) sites, where terrestrial cable cannot be used. These sites are connected using alternative means such as RF, VSAT, submarine cable etc. Through coordination with various stakeholders, the Department was able to reduce the total TNF sites from 58 in 2019 to 1 in 2022, which resulted in savings of Rs. 95.45 tax credits. Work Orders have also been issued for these 11 sites. In the COVID-19 scenario, this WAN connectivity has enabled better video conferencing facilities and better access to justice.
