A chapter on National War Memorial ‘A Homage to our Brave Soldiers’ included in NCERT curriculum of Class VII from this year

A chapter on the National War Memorial – “A Tribute to Our Brave Soldiers” – has been included in the Class VII NCERT curriculum since this year. The aim of this initiative, jointly undertaken by the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Education, is to inculcate the values ​​of patriotism, devotion to duty, courage and sacrifice among school children and increase the participation of youth to nation building.

The chapter highlights the history, meaning and concept of the National War Memorial (NWM), as well as the supreme sacrifice made by the braves of the Armed Forces in the service of the nation after Independence. In the chapter, two friends exchange letters and share their feelings of gratitude for the freedom they enjoy thanks to the sacrifices made by brave hearts. The deep emotional impact and connection, which arises in the minds and hearts of children as they visit the iconic monument, has been creatively showcased by the authors of NCERT.

It may be recalled that Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi dedicated the NWM to the nation on 25 February 2019 in New Delhi. It was established to instill a sense of sacrifice and national spirit among the people and pay due tribute to the brave soldiers who gave their lives to defend the nation.
