Nandini Satpathy (9 June 1931 – 4 August 2006), an Indian woman politician and writer. She was the Chief Minister of the state of Orissa from June 1972 to December 1976. Her uncle Bhagwati Charan Panigrahi founded the Orissa branch of the Communist Party of India. Satpathy was born on 9 June 1931 in the Cuttack district of Orissa.
Ramchandra Gandhi (9 June 1937 – 13 June 2007), an Indian philosopher. He was the son of Devdas Gandhi (Mahatma Gandhi’s youngest son). He founded the philosophy department at the University of Hyderabad. He taught at Visva-Bharati University, Panjab University, California Institute of Integral Studies in San Francisco, California, and Bangalore University. He was born on 9 June 1937.
Kiran Bedi, an Indian politician, social activist, retired police officer, tennis player, and the 24th Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry from 28 May 2016 to 16 February 2021. She is the first Indian female to become an Indian police service officer and started her service in 1972. During the police service, Kiran Bedi held many important posts and performed difficult tasks. The manner in which she controlled the Sikh riots that arose between the Akalis and the Nirankaris at India Gate Delhi in 1977 is an example in the Police Department’s records. She was born on 9 June 1949 in Amritsar, East Punjab, Dominion of India (present-day Punjab, India).
B. Jayashree, an Indian theatre actress, director and singer, has also acted in films and television and worked as a dubbing artist in films. She is the creative director of Spandana Theatre, an amateur theatre company based in Bangalore, established in 1976. She was awarded the Padma Shri by the Government of India in 2013 and also awarded the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for acting, given by the Sangeet Natak Akademi, India’s National Academy of Music, Dance & Drama. Jayashree was born on 9 June 1950 in Bangalore, India.
Sonam Kapoor, an Indian actress and the daughter of actor Anil Kapoor who works in Hindi films. She has received a National Film Award and appeared in Forbes India’s Celebrity 100 list based on her income and popularity. She was born on 9 June 1985 in Bombay, Maharashtra, India.

Death Anniversary
9 June in Indian history is observed as the death anniversary of the following personalities
Raj Khosla (31 May 1925 – 9 June 1991), one of the top directors, producers, and screenwriters in Hindi films from the 1950s to the 1980s. He is credited for the success of actors like Dev Anand. After starting his career under Guru Dutt, he continued to make hit films like C.I.D. ‘Who was she’? (1964), Mera Saaya (1966), Dostana (1980) and Main Tulsi Tere Aangan Ki (1978) won her the Filmfare Best Movie Award. Khosla died on 9 June 1991 at the age of 66 in Bombay, Maharashtra, India.
N.G. Ranga (7 November 1900 – 9 June 1995), an Indian freedom fighter, classical liberal, parliamentarian, former leader, and the founding president of Swatantra Party. He is considered as the father of the Indian Peasant Movement. His name found a place in the Guinness Book of World Records as a Parliamentarian with fifty years of service. Ranga died on 9 June 1995 at the age of 94.
M.F. Husain (17 September 1915 – 9 June 2011), an Indian artist known for executing bold, vibrantly coloured narrative paintings in a modified Cubist style, and one of the founding members of Bombay Progressive Artists’ Group. Husain awards collection includes Padma Shri in 1966, Padma Bhushan in 1973, and Padma Vibhushan in 1991 by the Government of India. He died on 9 June 2011 at the age of 95 in London, England, UK.
