Birth Anniversary

9 December in Indian history is celebrated as the birth anniversary of the following personalities:

Chandra Nath Sharma (9 December 1889 – 20 July 1922), the first non-cooperative of the state of Assam and one of the founders of the Congress in Assam. He was born on 9 December 1889.

Kushwaha Kant (9 December 1918 – 29 February 1952), a well-known novelist of India. He also created many comedies plays and poems under the name ‘Mahakavi Mochi’. He wrote a detective novel named ‘Khoon Ka Pyasa’ in the ninth grade itself. He was born on 9 December 1918 in Mirzapur, Uttar Pradesh.

Raghuvir Sahay (9 December 1929 – 30 December 1990), counted among those poets of Hindi literature whose language and craft had the influence of journalism and his works The plight of the common man was reflected in me. Raghuveer Sahay was an influential poet as well as a story writer, essay writer, and critic. He was also a renowned translator and journalist. He was awarded the Sahitya Akademi Award in 1982 for his book Log Bhool Gaye Hai. Sahai belonged to the generation that grew up after independence with a lot of aspirations. Sahai has expressed the same aspirations in his poems. Sahay is also counted among such poets who preferred to be future-oriented instead of looking into the past for inspiration. He was born on 9 December 1929.

Shatrughan Sinha, a famous film actor and politician. He was a well-known actor of Hindi films, is known by the name of ‘Bihari Babu’. He was born on 9 December 1945 in Patna, Bihar.

Sonia Gandhi, a famous Indian politician. Sonia was born on 9 December 1946 in ‘Luciana’, Italy in the ‘Mano’ family. She is a Member of Parliament from Rae Bareli, Uttar Pradesh, and also heads the ‘UPA’ in the 14th Lok Sabha. After the assassination of her husband Rajiv Gandhi, she stepped into politics. Sonia Gandhi has achieved an important place on the national and international political horizon. She was born on 9 December 1946.

Death Anniversary

9 December in Indian history is observed as the death anniversary of the following personalities:

Tarabai Bhonsle (1675 – 9 December 1761), the wife of Rajaram, the second son of Shivaji I. After the death of Rajaram, the widow Tarabai became the de facto patroness of the Maratha Empire by coronating her 4-year-old son Shivaji III. She was a woman of unparalleled enthusiasm. He fought relentlessly with the Mughal emperor Aurangzeb. The Marathas had again accumulated their power due to the inspiration and policy of Tarabai. She died on 9 December 1761.

Mahendranath Mulla (15 May 1926 – 9 December 1971), a brave officer of the Indian Navy. He was the captain of the Indian maritime carrier INS Khukri. In the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971, despite accolades everywhere, there was at least one occasion when the Pakistani Navy overpowered the Indian Navy. A Pakistani submarine was roaming in Indian waters, which was engaged by the ships ‘INS Khukri’ and ‘Kirpan’ to find and destroy, but the Pakistani submarine ‘Hangor’ targeted Khukri. Captain Mahendranath Mulla refused to release the sinking Khukri and saved the soldiers till the end. Along with INS Khukri, Mahendranath Mulla also took a water samadhi. He was awarded the ‘Maha Vir Chakra’ posthumously. He died on 9 December 1971.
