3 June in Indian history is celebrated as the birth anniversary of the following personalities:

Balkrishna Bhatt (3 June 1844 – 20 July 1914), a successful playwright, journalist, novelist, essayist, and one of the top creators of modern Hindi literature. Bhatt Ji provided a powerful style to Hindi by composing essays, novels, and plays and considered the father of today’s prose-oriented poetry. Bhatt Ji continued to personify his thoughts by editing ‘Hindi Pradeep’ for about thirty-two years. He was born on 3 June 1844 in Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh.

G. Sankara Kurup (3 June 1901 – 2 February 1978), an Indian poet, essayist, and literary critic of Malayalam literature. He was the first recipient of the Jnanpith Award―the highest Indian literary honor. Kurup served as a nominated member of the Rajya Sabha from 1968 to 1972 and received the Padma Bhushan. He was also a recipient of the Sahitya Akademi Award, Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award, and Soviet Land Nehru Award. He was born on 3 June 1901 in Nayathode, Kingdom of Cochin.

Muthuvel Karunanidhi (3 June 1924 – 7 August 2018), an Indian writer and politician who served as Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu for almost two decades over five terms between 1969 and 2011, the longest tenure as Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu with 6,863 days in office. He was also an enduring leader of the Dravidian movement and ten-time president of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam political party. He also made his contributions to Tamil literature, having written stories, plays, novels, and a multiple-volume memoir. He was born on 3 June 1924 in Thirukuvalai, Madras Presidency, British India.

Death Anniversary

3 June in Indian history is observed as the death anniversary of the following personalities:

Krishna Ballabh Sahay (31 December 1866 – 3 June 1974), a well-known patriot and revolutionary of India, was first the Revenue Minister of Bihar, and then He also became the Chief Minister of United Bihar. He was born on 31 December 1866 in Patna, Bihar. K. B. Sahai was associated with the Indian National Congress. He was the Chief Minister from 2 October 1963 to 5 March 1967.  He died on 3 June 1974 Hazaribagh, Bihar (now in Jharkhand), India.

Jaishankar (12 July 1938 – 3 June 2000), an Indian actor known for his work in Tamil cinema. He is referred as Thennakathu James Bond (South Indian James Bond) because of his roles in films such as Vallavan Oruvan and CID Shankar. He died on 3 June 2000 at the age of 61 in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India.

Bhajan Lal (6 October 1930 – 3 June 2011), a politician and three-time chief minister from the Indian state of Haryana. He also served as the Union Agricultural Minister. He died on 3 June 2011 at the age of 80 in Hisar, Haryana, India.

Jiah Khan (20 February 1988 – 3 June 2013), a British-American actress and singer who worked in Indian films. She appeared in three Hindi films from 2007 to 2010. Jiah Khan got the opportunity to become the heroine of Amitabh Bachchan in the very first film. However, his career was not affected by a film like “Nishabd” because this film was against the ideology of the society and the audience rejected it. She committed suicide on 3 June 2013 at the age of just 25 in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India.
