Birth Anniversary

26 August in Indian history is celebrated as the birth anniversary of the following personalities:

Mother Teresa (26 August 1910 – 5 September 1997), christened Saint Teresa of Calcutta by the Roman Catholic Church, was born in an Albanian family by the name of Anyeze Gonza Boyajiu in Uskub, Ottoman Empire (present-day Skopje, Republic of Macedonia) Happened in. Mother Teresa was a Roman Catholic nun who voluntarily took Indian citizenship in 1948. He founded the Missionaries of Charity in Kolkata in 1950. He helped the poor, sick, orphaned, and dying people for 45 years and paved the way for the spread of the Missionaries of Charity. He was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979 and the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian honor, in 1980. After the death of Mother Teresa, she was declared blessed by Pope John Paul II and gave the title of Blessed of Kolkata. She was Born on 26 August 1910.

Chaudhary Bansilal (26 August 1927 – 28 March 2006), Indian freedom fighter, senior Congress leader, former Chief Minister of Haryana, and considered by many to be the ‘builder of modern Haryana’. Bansilal was born in a prosperous family in the erstwhile princely state of Loharu in the Bhiwani district of Haryana. Bansilal was considered a close confidante of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and her son Sanjay Gandhi during the Emergency in 1975. He served as the Defense Minister from December 1975 to March 1977 and had a brief stint in the Central Government in 1975 as a Minister without portfolio. He also handled the railways and transport departments. Bansilal was Born on 26 August 1927 in Haryana.

Maneka Gandhi, an Indian politician, and animal rights activist. She has also been a journalist in the past. But she is more famous as the wife of late Sanjay Gandhi, the younger son of India’s first female Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. He has authored many books and his articles often appear in various magazines. She married Sanjay, the younger son of the then Prime Minister Smt. Indira Gandhi. She entered politics in 1982 after the death of Sanjay Gandhi in a sudden accident. Maneka Gandhi ji is currently the MP of Sultanpur district, and is continuously removing the backwardness of the district, is continuously working to make the district hi-tech. She was Born on 26 August 1956 in Delhi.

Death Anniversary

26 August in Indian history is observed as the death anniversary of the following personalities:

Atul Prasad Sen (28 October 1871 – 26 August 1934), a famous jurist, educationist, writer, and famous Bengali poet and musician. He was counted among the top lawyers in the country. He was the editor of ‘Awadh Weekly Notes’ and the Bengali monthly ‘Uttara’. The patriotic and devotional songs composed by him have a place of great respect in the field of Bengali music. Atul Prasad was counted among the top lawyers. He also took a full interest in public works. He was also one of the founders of Lucknow University and was associated with that institution throughout his life. He also participated in the work of ‘Harijan Uddhav’ promoted by Gandhiji. He was always there to help in times of natural calamities. He was closely related to many prominent people of the country like Rabindranath Thakur, Gandhiji, Motilal Nehru, Mahamana Malviya, Lala Lajpat Rai, Swami Vivekananda, etc. Influenced by Gopal Krishna Gokhale’s service to the country, Atul Prasad Sen became a member of his organization ‘Servants of India Society. He died on 26 August 1934.

Avtar Kishan Hangal (1 February 1917 – 26 August 2012) is a famous actor and television artist of Hindi films. Hangal, who was a part of the Hindi film industry since 1967, acted in about 225 films. He is known for his memorable roles in the films ‘Parichay’ and ‘Sholay’. He was also involved in the signature campaign to save Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev, and Rajguru from hanging. His shirt was soaked in blood during the Qissa-Khwani Bazaar massacre. Hangal Saheb used to say, ‘That blood belonged to all – Hindu, Muslim, Sikh mixed-blood!’ From his student life, he was involved in helping big revolutionaries. Later, the British kept him in jail for three years, yet he did not deter from his intention. Between 1930 and 1947, he was active in the Indian freedom struggle and went to jail twice. He was Born on 26 August 2012.
