Birth Anniversary

23 September in Indian history is celebrated as the birth anniversary of the following personalities:

Yusuf Meherali (23 September 1903 – 2 July 1950), a freedom fighter and social reformer. Yusuf contributed to the strengthening of the workers and peasant’s organization and due to this he was imprisoned eight times during the freedom struggle. Meher Ali was one of the founders of the Congress Socialist. Yusuf Mehrali took part in the Salt Satyagraha of 1930. In 1934, he was arrested for conspiring against the British Raj and sentenced to two years’ rigorous imprisonment. Meher Ali was one of the founders of the Congress Socialist. He took part in the Vishisht Satyagraha of 1940 and was arrested and put behind the bars on both the occasions. He was Born on 23 September 1903 in Mumbai.

Ramdhari Singh ‘Dinkar’ (23 September 1908 – 24 April 1974), a famous Hindi writer, poet and essayist. ‘Rashtrakavi Dinkar’ is established as the poet of the best heroic rasa of the modern era. He gained immense popularity due to his powerful poems that inspired the revolutionary struggle, filled with national sentiments. Dinkar ji studied History, Philosophy and Political Science from Patna University. In the form of literature, he studied Sanskrit, Bengali, English and Urdu in depth. In the year 1934, he accepted the post of ‘Sub-Registrar’ under the Government of Bihar and remained in this post for about nine years. Satyanarayan Shastri was also the president of ‘All India Saryuparin Pandit Parishad’ and ‘Kashi Shastratha Mahasabha’, patron of ‘Kashi Vidyaparishad’ and ‘Vidvat Pratinidhi Sabha’. He was also the permanent president of ‘Varanasaya Shastratha Mahavidyalaya’ and the founder of ‘Arjuna Darshananand Ayurveda Mahavidyalaya’, Varanasi. He was Born on 23 September 1908 in Bihar.

Prem Chopra, is an Indian actor in Hindi and Punjabi films. He has acted in 380 films over a span of over 60 years. He has a soft-spoken diction despite being a villain in most films. His 19 films, with him as antagonist and Rajesh Khanna in the lead role remain popular with audiences and critics. He became estranged with two of his four brothers in the late 1980s. Chopra had bought a bungalow in 1980 in Delhi, which was jointly owned by him and his father, and his father and one brother used to stay there. Chopra had gotten his brother a job in Delhi and made him stay at the bungalow. But his father, a day before his death, was made to sign a will favouring one of his brothers, taking away Chopra’s rights to the bungalow. Later, an income tax raid happened in that same house, and his brother said in the raid that Chopra had given them the bungalow, but the house still was in name of Prem Chopra. Chopra had two other houses in Bombay as well, which were sold off cheaply by his other brothers without telling him, as they needed the money. He was born on 23 September 1935 in India.

Death Anniversary

23 September in Indian history is observed as the death anniversary of the following personalities:

Rao Tularam Singh (9 December 1825 – 23 September 1863), an Yaduvanshi Ahir King or chieftain of Rewari. He was one of the key leaders of the Indian rebellion of 1857 in Haryana, where he is considered a state hero. On 17 May 1857 he along with his cousin, Rao Gopal Dev, and four to five hundred followers, deposed the local tehsildar and occupied Rewari. He raised a force of about 5000 soldiers and set up a workshop for manufacturing the guns and other ammunition. Rao Tula Ram helped Emperor Bahadur Shah and other rebel forces who were waging war against British in Delhi. The British successfully retaliated and after the battle of Narnaul Rao Tularam moved into Rajasthan and joined the force of Tantia Tope for one year but the forces of the Tantia Tope were defeated by British forces in the battle of Sikar in Rajasthan. Rao Tularam’s estates were confiscated by the British in 1859, though proprietary rights of his two wives were retained. In 1877, his title was restored to his son Rao Yudhister Singh, who was made head of the Ahirwal area. He died on 23 September 1863.

Satyanarayan Shastri (1887 – 23 September 1969), an eminent pandit and medical practitioner of modern Ayurveda. You worked throughout your life to keep alive the Dhaval tradition of Ayurveda. In 1950 AD, this personal doctor was appointed by the first President of India, Dr. Rajendra Prasad. He was awarded the ‘Padma Bhushan’ in the year 1954 for his contribution in the field of medical science. In 1955, Satyanarayan Shastri was honored with the decoration of ‘Padma Bhushan’, but during the Hindi movement in 1967, you abandoned this decoration. He died on 23 September 1969.
