Ghulam Yazdani (22 March 1885 – 13 November 1962), an Indian archaeologist. He was one of the founders of the Archaeological Department during the colonial era of Hyderabad Nizam. He was instrumental in surveying and documenting Islamic, Buddhist, Hindu, and Jain sites in the Hyderabad state, including major mosques in the region, the caves at Ajanta, Ellora caves, Alampur group of temples, Bidar fort, and Daulatabad. He was awarded the Padma Bhushan Award by the Indian government in 1959 for his contribution. Yazdani was born on 22 March 1885 in Delhi, British India.

Surya Sen (22 March 1894 – 12 January 1934), an Indian revolutionary. He was influential in the Indian independence movement against British rule in India and is best known for leading the 1930 Chittagong armory raid. Sen was a schoolteacher by profession and was popularly known as Master Da. After the Chittagong raid in 1930 and a fierce battle where over 80 British troops and 12 revolutionaries were killed, Sen and other surviving revolutionaries dispersed into small groups and hid in neighboring villages, launching raids on government personnel and property. Sen was arrested on 16 February 1933, tried and was hanged on 12 January 1934. Indian film director Ashutosh Gowariker directed the film Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey (2010) about Sen’s life. He was born on 22 March 1894 in Bengal Presidency, British India.

Hanuman Prasad Poddar (1892 – 22 March 1971) was an Indian freedom fighter, literateur, magazine editor and philanthropist. He was also one of the trustees of Gita Press setup by Ghanshyam Jalan and Jay Dayal Ji Goeyendka. His work in fostering pride among the people regarding India’s glorious history and philosophic tradition earned him praise from Mahatma Gandhi. The Government of India issued a postage stamp in his memory in 1992. He died on 22 March 1971.

Ayillyath Kuttiari Gopalan (1 October 1904 – 22 March 1977), popularly known as A. K. Gopalan or AKG, was an Indian communist politician. He was one of 16 Communist Party of India members elected to the first Lok Sabha in 1952. Later, he became one of the founding members of the CPI(M). He died on 22 March 1977 in Trivandrum, Kerala, India.

Vithal Mahadeo Tarkunde (3 July 1909 in – 22 March 2004), was a prominent Indian lawyer, civil rights activist. The Supreme Court of India also praised him as “undoubtedly the most distinguished judge of the post-Chagla 1957 period” in the Bombay High Court. During the emergency, he worked closely with Jayaprakash Narayan, providing leadership to the NGOs Citizens for Democracy and People’s Union for Civil Liberties, of which he was the founding president. He died on 22 March 2004.

Gemini Ganesan (17 November 1920 – 22 March 2005), an Indian actor who worked mainly in Tamil cinema. He was also known as Ganapati Subramanian Sarma or Ramasamy Ganesan. He won Filmfare Awards twice. In 1971, he was honored with Padma Shri. Also, he was honored with “Kalaimamani”, the “MGR Gold Medal” and the “Screen Lifetime Achievement Award”. He died on 22 March 2005 in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India.

Uppaluri Gopala Krishnamurti (9 July 1918 – 22 March 2007), an Indian speaker questioned the state of enlightenment as a real thing. He was unrelated to his contemporary Jiddu Krishnamurti, although the two men had a number of meetings because of their association with the Theosophical Society. He died on 22 March 2007 in Vallecrosia, Italy.

Yashwant Vithoba Chittal (3 August 1928 – 22 March 2014), a Kannada fiction writer. He did extraordinary experimentation with the language. He was honored with Sahitya Akademi Award. He died on 22 March 2014 in Mumbai, India.
