The 19th edition of Divya Kala Mela was officially launched in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. The event was inaugurated by the Honorable Governor of Andhra Pradesh, Shri S. Abdul Nazeer, and saw the presence of several important figures, including Dr. Virendra Kumar, Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment, Shri M. Shribharat, MP (Lok Sabha), Shri G. Babu Rao, MP (Rajya Sabha), and other distinguished guests.
Financial Support for Divyang Entrepreneurs
At the opening ceremony, concessional loans totaling โน40 lakh were distributed to 10 Divyang beneficiaries. These loans were provided under NDFDC (National Handicapped Finance and Development Corporation) schemes, helping Divyang individuals pursue their business goals.
In addition, with the support of CSR partners HPCL, GAIL India Ltd, IOCL, and Coromandel India Ltd, assistive devices were distributed. These devices will help Divyangjan (persons with disabilities) take part in social and economic activities, enhancing their independence and inclusion in society.
A Platform for Empowering Divyang Artisans
In his speech, Shri S. Abdul Nazeer praised the Divya Kala Mela as a special platform that empowers Divyang artisans. He emphasized how the event brings together people from different parts of society. He said, โThis fair not only empowers Divyang entrepreneurs but also promotes an inclusive society by showcasing their talent and creativity on a national stage.โ
Promoting Inclusion and Economic Empowerment
Dr. Virendra Kumar expressed pride in the Divya Kala Mela initiative. He stated, โThis event shows the incredible potential of Divyangjan. It gives them a chance to display their skills and creativity while helping them achieve financial independence.โ He further explained that this event is an important step towards building an inclusive India.
Showcasing Products from Divyang Artisans
The Divya Kala Mela features a wide range of high-quality products made by nearly 100 Divyang artisans from 20 different states and union territories (UTs). The products include:
- Handicrafts
- Handlooms
- Embroidery
- Packaged foods
The event offers a larger platform for these talented artisans to market their goods, helping them earn a livelihood and gain financial independence.
Cultural Performances and Regional Delicacies
The 11-day event, which runs from 11:00 AM to 9:00 PM, also includes cultural performances by Divyang artists. These performances celebrate the rich cultural heritage of India while showcasing the talents of the artists. Visitors can also enjoy food stalls offering a variety of regional delicacies from across the country, making the event a celebration of art, culture, and food.
This initiative reflects the governmentโs support for the ‘Vocal for Local’ movement, encouraging the growth of local businesses and highlighting the incredible craftsmanship of Divyang artisans.
Ministryโs Commitment to Empowerment
During the event, Dr. Virendra Kumar briefed the media on the 100-day achievements of the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment. He emphasized the ministryโs ongoing efforts to empower Divyangjan through various initiatives.
The dignitaries, along with the attendees, also participated in a Swachhata Pledge, highlighting the importance of cleanliness, hygiene, and taking responsibility for the community’s well-being.
