Nana Saheb Peshwa II (19 May 1824 – 24 September 1859), an Indian Peshwa of the Maratha empire, aristocrat, and fighter, who led the revolt in Kanpur during the Indian revolt of 1857. He was born on May 19 1824 in Venu, Maharashtra.

Neelam Sanjiva Reddy (19 May 1913 – 1 June 1996), the Sixth President of India, serving from 1977 to 1982 who was the youngest-ever Indian president. He started his political career with the Indian National Congress Party in the independence movement. Reddy holds some important offices of independent India and became the first Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh and a two-time Speaker of the Lok Sabha and a Union Minister. He was born on 19 May 1913 in Illur, Madras Presidency, British India (now in Andhra Pradesh, India).

Nathuram Godse (19 May 1910 – 15 November 1949), The Murderer of Mahatma Gandhi, who shot Gandhi in the chest three times at point blank range in New Delhi on 30 January 1948. He was a Hindu nationalist from Pune.  Godse was sentenced to death on 8 November 1949. He was born on 19 May 1910 in Baramati, Bombay Presidency, British India.

Nawazuddin Siddiqui, an Indian actor known for his work in Hindi cinema and an alumnus of the National School of Drama. He made his Bollywood debut in the year 1999 with a small role in the film Sarfarosh. Some of his best film roles are in The Lunchbox (2013), Manto (2018), and Raman Raghav 2.0, Black Friday (2007), and the Gangs of Wasseypur (2012). He was born on 19 May 1974 in Budhana, Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh, India.

Parth Jindal, an Indian businessman, managing director of JSW Cement, director of JSW USA, managing director of JSW Paints, director of JSW Sports, chairman of IPL cricket team Delhi Capitals, and CEO of ISL football club Bengaluru FC. He was born on 19 May 1990.

Death Anniversary

19 May in Indian history is observed as the death anniversary of the following personalities:

Jamsetji Tata (3 March 1839 – 19 May 1904), an Indian pioneer industrialist and the founder of the Tata group, an industrial house. Jamsetji’s contribution to the Indian industrial sector is extraordinary and very significant. When only Europeans, especially the British, were considered skilled in setting up industries, Jamsetji paved the way for industrial development in India. He also established the city of Jamshedpur. He was regarded as the legendary “Father of Indian Industry”. He died on 19 May 1904 at the age of 65.

Jadunath Sarkar (10 December 1870 – 19 May 1958), a prominent Indian historian especially of the Mughal dynasty. He died on 19 May 1958 at the age of 87 in Calcutta, India.

Janaki Ramachandran (23 September 1924 – 19 May 1996), an Indian politician, activist, and the first woman Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. She was the 4th Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu for only 24 days. Ramachandran carpeted in more than 25 movies including Mohini (1948), Raja Mukthi, Velaikaari, Aiyiram Thalaivangiya Aboorva Chintamani, Devaki and Marudhanaattu Ilavarasi. She died on 19 May 1996 at the age of 71 in Madras, Tamil Nadu, India.

Sombhu Mitra (22 August 1915 – 19 May 1997), an Indian film and stage actor, director, playwright, reciter, and Indian theatre personality. He is considered a pioneer of Bengali theatre. Mitra died on 19 May 1997 at the age of 81 in Kolkata.

E.K Nayanar (9 December 1919 – 19 May 2004), an Indian politician of the Communist Party of India CPI. He was the 9th Chief Minister of Kerala and served three terms (eleven years), making him the longest-serving holder of that office. He died on 19 May 2004 at the age of 85 in Delhi, India.
