World Emoji Day

Did you know that emojis are the fastest-growing language in history? With a staggering five billion emojis sent daily, just on Facebook Messenger, these expressive symbols have become an integral part of modern communication. Emojis have even found their way into unexpected contexts, such as a court judge in England using a smiley face emoji to help explain the court’s decision to children.

Given their widespread usage and impact, it’s only fitting that we have a dedicated day to celebrate emojis. July 17th is recognized as World Emoji Day—a joyous occasion commemorating the pictograms that bring our conversations to life.

World Emoji Day is marked by various activities, including hashtag campaigns on Twitter, singing the official anthem of the observance, and lively parties where individuals dress up as emojis. In anticipation of the event, the World Emoji Day website invited social media users to vote for the emoji they believed best encapsulated the spirit of 2023. The “melting face” emoji and the “holding back tears” emoji emerged as the top two finalists last year.
