Joseph Henry (17 December 1797 – 13 May 1878), an American scientist who served as the first Secretary of the Smithsonian Institution. He was a member of the United States Lighthouse Board from 1852 until his death. He was appointed chairman in 1871 and served in that position the remainder of his life. He was the only civilian to serve as chairman. He died on 13 May 1878, Washington, D.C, U.S.

Sukanta Bhattacharya (15 August 1926 – 13 May 1947), a Bengali poet and Playwright. He passed away from tuberclusios, three months before India Achieved independence. He died on 13 May 1947, Calcutta, Bengal Presidency, British India.

R.K.Narayan (10 October 1906 – 13 May 2001), an Indian writer known for his work set in the fictional South Indian town of Malgudi. He received Sahitya Academy Award, Filmfare Award, and Padma Bhushan. He died on 13 May 2001, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India.
