Yashwantrao Balwantrao Chavan (12 March 1913 – 25 November 1984), an Indian politician. He was the first chief minister of Maharashtra. He also served as Deputy Prime Minister of India in the short-lived Charan Singh government in 1979. Shree Chavan was affiliated with Indian National Congress (INC). He was born on 12 March 1913 in Maharashtra, British India.
Sir Anish Kapoor, a British Indian sculptor specializing in installation art and conceptual art. He was born on 12 March 1954 in Mumbai, India.

Ganesh Pyne (11 June 1937 – 12 March 2013), an Indian painter and illustrator. Pyne was given Raja Ravi Varma award by the Government of Kerala, and in 2011, the lifetime achievement award by the Indian Chamber of Commerce. He died on 12 March 2013 in Kolkata, India, at an age of 75.

12 March 1925 – Leo Esaki a Japanese physicist, and Nobel Prize Laureate, was born.
12 March 1930 – Mahatma Gandhi started the Dandi March. There were 78 people who started the march with him and were supposed to work with him for 241 miles from his Ashram in Sabarmati to the coastal village of Dandi. The march was supposed to be an act of civil resistance where Mahatma Gandhi broke British law by producing salt.
12 March 1942 – William Henry Bragg a British physicist, mathematician, and Nobel Prize Laureate, died.
12 March 1954 – The Sahitya Akademi was founded. It was created for the promotion of literature in Indian languages. The Sahitya Academy Award is one of the most prestigious awards in Indian literature along with the Gyanpeeth award.
12 March 1968 – Mauritius became independent from the British monarch.
12 March 1993 – The infamous Mumbai bomb blasts happened. These blasts were a series of 12 bomb blasts that happened in different parts of the city. Dawood Ibrahim along with his subordinate’s tiger and Yakub Memon was responsible for this blast. Over 250 people died in the attacks with more than 700 injured.
12 March 2016 – Lloyd Shapley, an American mathematician, economist, and Nobel Prize Laureate died.
