Birth Anniversary

12 August in Indian history is celebrated as the birth anniversary of the following personalities:

Teji Bachchan (12 August 1914 – 21 December 2007) was a social worker, wife of the famous Hindi poet Harivansh Rai Bachchan and mother of the famous Hindi film actor Amitabh Bachchan. While she was teaching psychology at Khoob Chand Degree College, Lahore, she met Harivansh, an English professor at Allahabad University. The couple got married in 1941 in Allahabad. Ms Bachchan became a housewife and lover of the stage. During his lifetime, Harivansh was completely absorbed in his work. The Bachchan family was part of India’s literary circuit and high society. Teji played the role of Macbeth in the Hindi adaptation of Lady Macbeth her husband. He made a cameo appearance in Yash Chopra’s 1976 film, Kabhi Kabhi. He was also appointed as one of the directors of the Film Finance Corporation in 1973. She was Born on 12 August 1914 in India.

Vikram Ambalal Sarabhai (12 August 1919 – 30 December 1971) was a prominent Indian scientist. He wrote 86 scientific research papers and opened 40 institutes. He was awarded the Padma Bhushan by the Government of India in the year 1966 in the field of science and engineering. Dr Vikram Sarabhai’s name cannot be separated from India’s space program. It is well known that he was Vikram Sarabhai, who placed India on the international map in the field of space research. But along with this, he made equal contributions in other fields like textiles, pharmaceuticals, atomic energy, electronics, and many more. His most important characteristic was that he was a man of such a high order who had extraordinary sympathy for others. He was such a person that whoever came in contact with him would not remain unaffected by him. With whomever he interacted; he was able to immediately establish a personal rapport. Sarabhai was Born on 12 August 1919 in Ahmedabad.

Death Anniversary

12 August in Indian history is observed as the death anniversary of the following personalities:

Bhagwatsharan Upadhyay (11 July 1910 – 12 August 1982) was an educationist and Hindi litterateur. Upadhyay Ji did a thorough study of Sanskrit, Hindi literature, history, culture, and archaeology. Their language style is literary khadiboli consisting of similar words. He has used critical, sentimental, and pictorial language and sometimes used sketch style. Among his works are the outlines of world literature, Kalidas’s India, Kadambari, Stuffed Mango, Red China, Ganga-Godavari, Buddha’s splendour, literature, and art, on the waves of the ocean, etc. He also edited the research journal of Banaras Hindu University. He was also a member of the editorial board of Hindi Encyclopaedia. He has also decorated the post of Ambassador of India to Mauritius and Professor of History at Vikram University. He died on 12 August 1982.

This day is celebrated, on 17 December 1999, it was decided by the United Nations General Assembly that the International Youth Day would be celebrated on 12 August. International Youth Day was first organized in the year 2000. The United Nations declared 1985 the International Year of Youth. International Youth Day is an opportunity to recognize the voices, actions, and meaningful initiatives of youth globally. Like every year, this time too on 12th August it will be celebrated all over the world.

 World Elephant Day is an international annual event on August 12, dedicated to the preservation and protection of the world’s elephants.
