His work extended to many fields, including the eradication of untouchability and the caste system and for his efforts in educating women and exploited caste people. He was born on 11 April 1827 in Maharashtra, British India.
Kasturba Gandhi (11 April 1869 – 22 February 1944), an Indian political activist. She married Mohandas Gandhi in 1883. In association with her husband and son, she was involved in the Indian independence movement in British-ruled India. She was very influenced by her husband Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, a.k.a. Mahatma Gandhi. She was born on 11 April 1869 in Bombay Presidency, British India.
Jamini Roy (11 April 1887 – 24 April 1972) was an Indian painter. He was honoured with the State award of Padma Bhushan in 1955. He was one of the most famous pupils of Abanindranath Tagore, whose artistic originality and contribution to the emergence of art in India remains unquestionable. He was born on 11 April 1887.
K. L. Saigal (11 April 1904 – 18 January 1947), was an Indian singer and actor. He was considered the first superstar of the Hindi film industry, which was centred in Kolkata during Saigal’s time. Saigal’s unique voice quality which was a mixture of baritone and soft tenor was the benchmark for most of the singers who followed him. In fact, it remains the gold standard even today shining through very early and practically primitive recording technology. He was born on 11 April 1904.
Sandhya Roy is an Indian actress and politician. She is known for her work in Bengali cinema. She is the recipient of BFJA Award three times. and one Filmfare Awards East best actress for Ganadevata. Rohini Hattangadi, an Indian actress, known for her work in Marathi-language and Hindi films, television and theatre. Phanishwar Nath Renu (4 March 1921 – 11 April 1977), one of the most successful and influential writers of modern Hindi literature. His notable work was Maila Anchal. The 2017 Bollywood Film Panchlait is also based on this short story. In his stories, he depicted the life of rural Bihar and its people, especially the backward and the deprived. He was awarded Padma Shree, the fourth-highest civilian award. In 1977, the author returned the Padma Shri he had received in 1970, as a protest against the Emergency.v Renu died on 11 April 1977 at an age of 56.
Shrimad Rajchandra (9 November 1867 – 11 April 1901), a Jain poet, mystic, philosopher, scholar and reformer. Born near Morbi, he claimed to have a recollection of his past lives at the age of seven. He performed Avadhāna, memory retention and recollection test that gained him popularity, but he later discouraged it in favour of his spiritual pursuits. He wrote much philosophical poetry including Atma Siddhi. He also wrote many letters and commentaries and translated some religious texts. He is best known for his teachings on Jainism and his spiritual guidance to Mahatma Gandhi. He died on 11 April 1901.
Vishnu Prabhakar (21 June 1912 – 11 April 2009), a Hindi writer. He had several short stories, novels, plays and travelogues to his credit. Prabhakar’s works have elements of patriotism, nationalism and messages of social upliftment. He was the First Sahitya Academy Award winner from Haryana. He was awarded the Sahitya Akademi Award in 1993, Mahapandit Rahul Sankrityayan Award in 1995 and the Padma Bhushan (the third highest civilian honour of India) by the Government of India in 2004. He died on 11 April 2009 in New Delhi, India.
B. M. Idinabba (17 September 1920 – 11 April 2009), a prominent Kannada poet, journalist, freedom fighter, politician and Kannada activist from Karnataka. has received many prestigious awards including Rajyotsava Prashasti. He died on 11 April 2009.

11 April 1930 – Lakshman Jhula was open to the public. It is a suspension bridge across the river Ganges, located 5 kilometers northeast of the city of Rishikesh in the Indian state of Uttarakhand. It connects two villages and it is a structure made out of iron that is suspended at a height of 70 feet from the river. The well-known tourist spot has rich mythology attached to it. The bridge has a legendary significance which says Lord Lakshmana, crossed the Ganga using just two jute ropes. In memory of this historic feat, a 284-foot-long hanging rope bridge was built.
