Birth Anniversary

10 December in Indian history is celebrated as the birth anniversary of the following personalities:

Jadunath Sarkar (10 December 1870 – 15 May 1958), known as a famous historian. He belonged to the Zamindar family. He completed his MA in English Literature in 1892. Passed his examinations and spent most of his life studying and writing texts. He had also rendered his distinguished services as a Professor of History and English. He was born on 10 December 1870.

Chakravarti Rajagopalachari (10 December 1878 – 28 December 1972), the pinnacle of Indian politics, also known as Rajaji. Rajgopalachari was an advocate, writer, politician, and philosopher. He was the second Governor-General of independent India and the first Indian Governor-General. Due to his wonderful and influential personality, the great freedom fighter, social reformer, Gandhian politician Chakravarti Rajagopalachari, popularly known as ‘Rajaji’, is considered the ‘Chanakya’ of the history of modern India. He was born on 10 December 1878.

Prafulla Chand Chaki (10 December 1888 – 1 May 1908), a name taken with the utmost respect in the history of the Indian freedom struggle. He had sacrificed his life for the country. He was born on 10 December 1888.

Siddhavanahalli Nijalingappa (10 December 1902 – 8 August 2000), the President of the Indian National Congress from 1968–1969. During his tenure, there was a split in Congress. Nijalingappa was also the Chief Minister of Mysore in 1956. He was born on 10 December 1902.

Hasmukh Dhirajlal Sankalia (10 December 1908 – 28 January 1989), an Indian archaeologist. In the year 1974, he was awarded ‘Padma Bhushan’ by the Government of India in the field of administrative service. He was considered an expert in ancient Indian history. The cheerful Dhirajlal Sanklia is said to have pioneered archaeological excavation techniques in India, which have many important discoveries dating back to prehistoric times to his credit.

Death Anniversary

10 December in Indian history is observed as the death anniversary of the following personalities:

Chaudhary Digambar Singh (9 June 1913 – 10 December 1995), a freedom fighter and a four-time Lok Sabha MP. He made a remarkable contribution in the field of cooperatives. It was his first attempt to amend the ‘Land Acquisition Act’ of the farmers. Digambar Singh was famous for speaking about farmers in Parliament. He defeated leaders like Raja Mahendra Pratap, Maniram Bagri and Raja Mansingh in the Lok Sabha elections. He was the President of ‘Mathura District Co-operative Bank’ for about 25 years. He was born on 9 June 1913.
